>> 1860 Legacy Foundation Celebration, A Success!!!

The 1860 Legacy Foundation - Mpumalanga Family Fun Day Celebration was a wonderful success. The day was hot but the Indian community came out to support the event in large numbers.

During the day, the veterans of our Community planted commemarative trees on the grounds. The trees they planted symbolize their contributions to the society and as the trees grow tall and strong and spread their roots, so will the community members from all Castes and Creeds will unite under one banner of being South African Indians.

As the evening closed in and the temperature dropped, I was happy to see that families came out to join in the celebrations. The stalls were busy and people visited our little museum of laminated pics and slideshow presentation on the local Indian history of the region. The evenings event was blessed with the presence of our Honorable Speaker of the Legislative council. His speech touched on many points of Indian contribution to the South African society. Right from the time before independance, on Robben Island with Mr Nelson Mandela, to the present day. We thank for his presence and wish him all the best.

We were entertained by the local Indian dance groups. A stunning performance in Traditional and Contemprary Indian dance forms. We were also entertained by a group of 3 to 4 year olds dancing to 'Zoobi Doobi' from the the movie 3 Idiots! They were adorable.

The veterans were presented with commerative medals as a token of remembrance of the day. The day ended with a spectacular show of fireworks that kept the crowd mesermerised!Lets hope that we will be able to make this event even bigger and better the next time around.

We would like to thank our generous sponsors without whom all this would not have been possible. They are:

Plaza Super Spar
Outlook Signs
Valencia Wholesalers
Commercial Wholesalers
Ama Gents
Gents Alley

Like the roots of the trees that were planted, will the love and support for the communities grow strong and deep and intertwine and become one. May that strong roots bear the fruit of a United Community an Indian Community without the divisions of Religion and Social Backgrounds!
